Medifast vs. Nutrisystem Comparison Review

When a person is ready to lose weight and get healthy, deciding which diet plan will work best for them can be a challenge. Two companies that offer the same basic fundamental approach for losing weight are Medifast and Nurtisystem. Each of the plans provides a structured, pre-prepared, portion and calorie controlled diet program, but what makes Medifast different from Nutrisystem.
If a person decides to choose the Medifast program then they will follow the 5 in 1 plan. This means that you eat five Medifast meals plus one “lean and green meal” which you make yourself. That means you are eating six times a day. Medifast offers prepackaged foods which include shakes, bars, soups, stew, chili, oatmeal, eggs, hot and cold drinks, cheese puffs, pretzels, pudding and brownies. Each of the meals are nutritionally balanced and will keep you feeling satisfied. You can have your “lean and green” meal at any time, but most people have it for their evening meal. The “lean and green” meal consists of a 5 oz., 6 oz. or 7 oz. piece of lean meat and 3 servings of vegetables. On Medifast if you follow the 5 and 1 plan a person can expect to lose about 2- 5 pounds per week.
Nutrisystem offers prepackaged meals that you use for most of the day. You are to eat a Nutrisystem meal for your breakfast, lunch, dinner and for two daily snacks. Nutrisystem encourages you to supplement your lunch and dinner meals with your own fruits and vegetables. You are eating the diet meals five times per day as opposed to eating six times per day with Medifast and then supplementing with your own healthy foods. Nutrisystem claims that if you follow the plan you will lose 1 to 3 pounds per week.
Both Medifast and Nutrisystem offer a huge amount of support to their members. Neither of the plans requires a monthly payment to use their websites, support communities, forums or recipe boards. The resources are very helpful.
The costs of both diet plans are pretty close, with Medifast being a bit cheaper. On average, Nutrisystem runs about $11 per day whereas Medifast runs about $10 per day. Both companies offer Medifast Coupons and Nutrisystem discounts to bring the costs down.
The major differences of the Medifast plan and the Nutrisystem plan are the frequency that you will eat, the amount of time you’ll be eating the plan’s prepackaged foods, and how often you will need to supplement with your own food. You eat six times per day on Medifast and only five times per day with Nutrisystem. You supplement with your own foods for lunch and dinner with Nutrisystem. However, with Medifast you are only responsible for your own main meal which is the “lean and green meal”. You will eat prepackaged foods at every meal with Nutrisystem, but with Medifast, you take a break from the prepackaged foods at your main meal.
So, which plan is better? Deciding if Medifast or Nutrisystem is better for you depends on your own personality or preferences. Both diet plans do have proven success records. Many people have lost weight on both plans and both plans are priced fairly. It basically comes down to your own individual decision of which food options you prefer. Do you wish to eat five or six meals a day and how often do you want to supplement or prepare your own foods?
