Is an online dating site. Yup.
Going to meet someone and try to get a date. Yup.
Did I happen to mention that they are an online dating site?
Can you feel the excitement in the air?
Well, if you are looking for a bunch of bells and whistles and p-sychological profiles created by Freud himself….you aren’t going to find it here. Matchmaker.com is one of your more basic online dating sites. So why review it then? For the simple fact that Matchmaker.com has well over 2 million members.
Yup.
2 million members.
For this fact alone, I give this site a good to excellent rating. Much like Match.com and Yahoo Personals, Matchmaker.com does one thing, and it does it well. Introduces you to the millions of qualified singles in your area. They have well over 50,000 new men and women joining every week…..so they have to be doing something right.
Matchmaker.com gives you the opportunity to create a free profile, and even allows non-paying members a very basic form of communication. Of course if you sign up, then your profile is instantly jetted to the top of the search results and all forms of communication are available to you. The one …..well, I wouldn’t really call it a “negative” aspect….but the one thing I really don’t like about Matchmaker.com is that their profiles aren’t as detailed as such premium sites like eHarmony.com and Perfectmatch.com. I guess they take a “less is more” approach to the online dating scene, and I can see how this would work. Instead of having to wade through a library full of information about someone you aren’t interested in, you can quickly see at a glance whether or not you are compatible with someone. Don’t get me wrong….the profiles aren’t lacking in any way, but rather they are quick and to the point. If I were simply looking to meet someone tonight to talk to, then I could plausibly see myself joining this site. I found it very easy to navigate and their search options were some of the best I have seen in a long while.
Matchmaker.com not only caters to straight singles, but gays and lesbians as well. They also have a few niche sites like Latino dating and Senior Citizen dating as well.
Matchmaker.com is currently beta-testing a new feature called “Date Mobile”. This is an interesting way to meet singles….after you have created a profile, you have the option of signing up for Date Mobile. Essentially your number is kept safe with Matchmaker.com and you are allowed to anonymously communicate via text message over your cell phone. I have to admit…..when I am dating someone, nothing brightens my day more than receiving a text message from them while at work. My heart literally skips a beat when I get a text message from that special someone. I could see how addictive this “flirt by text message” could be.
Matchmaker.com’s rates are honestly quite low when compared to other sites like Match.com and Perfectmatch.com. Of course, if you chose a 3 month subscription package, then you will wind up saving even more money.
Other than that….please stick around for a few because I have just hired a 25 member marching band, 4 circus lions and 25 winos on pogo sticks to form a parade to end this really bland post. Can you feel my excitement?
