How Do You Keep the Weight Off Once You Reached Your Goal with Medifast?

How do you keep the weight off once you reach your Medifast goal?
I have tried many different diets and with all of them the weight always came back. For example no matter how well the Atkins diet took off my weight, I couldn’t go without carbs forever. When I started eating bread and pasta again, the fat came back. When I read about Medifast I really hoped that they could keep their promise to take the weight off and keep it off.
We all know that diets do not work long term unless we make some kind of permanent adjustment with our diet and exercise. Medifast has specifically designed a Transition and Maintenance plan that helps you keep the weight off permanently.
Once you have reached your goal weight, you go on the transition plan. The transition plan slowly adds carbohydrates and calories back into your diet while giving your body the appropriate time to adjust. As you add in the calories you take away Medifast meals and begin to make healthy choices again. Depending on how much weight you have lost will depend on how long you are transiting. For example let’s say you have lost 30 lbs, you would then transition for about four weeks. During week one, you add in additional vegetables and approximately 1,000 calories. In week two, you’re allowed to eat fruit again. In week three, you’ll add additional dairy products. Then in week four, you’re given the green light for whole grains and snacks. Medifast provides lots of support, giving recipes and meal plan ideas to make the transition as easy as possible.
Once you have completed the transition plan, you’ll then go on the maintenance plan. This is really the last phase of the Medifast plan. Medifast has most people try to keep their calorie intake at around 1,500 calories per day as part of their maintenance, but they do encourage you to experiment with the amount of calories that keeps you at your ideal weight.
This can be a scary part for most people, but you will find that you are more prepared than you think. You just have to remember what Medifast as taught you about eating small, frequent and healthy meals. By the time many people reach maintenance, they have changed their lifestyles and are ready to move forward.
On the maintenance plan you do not have to continue to eat Medifast foods if you don’t wish to, as long you are making healthy choices that allow you to keep the weight off. Most people do continue to eat some of the Medifast food because they like the convenience and easiness of the foods. Many people will still eat a few of the plan’s shakes, bars, pretzels or puffs either on a daily or weekly basis. I do, but it’s not a requirement.
So many people have said to me that they are so concerned that once they get off the plan they are going to gain the weight back and I understand these concerns because I have been in their position. I have spent lots of time asking questions from other people that have been on Medifast and have done research and here is what I have found to be true.
Medifast gives you the tools that you need to change your habits and develop a new, healthier way of living. Medifast has helped me to look at food in a whole new way. I am no longer obsessed with chocolate or tempted by salt and fat. I am not saying that I do not eat these things, I just do it in moderation. I would rather wear a size six and eat smaller meals than be that unhealthy again. I have met other people who have easily transitioned because they have used Medifast as an opportunity to change the way they live and hold on to moving and living in a healthy way.
If you plan to get off of Medifast and go back to eating junk or fast food, then you can’t expect to keep the weight off, but if you use what you have learned, I’d bet that you are going to be just fine and will be able to keep the weight off without many problems.
