Hey guys,

I’m new here, but just wanted to give you all a little heads up. I have been a member of a particular online dating site now (on and off) for well over 5 years. Over the years I have gotten several emails/winks from guys who live in random foreign countries…always looking for love. I have noticed that these guys are nothing more than scammers, who have a sob story and try to work their way into your heart.

About a year ago, I was talking to a guy from England (I’m in America) and we really hit it off. Then all of a sudden he starts asking me for money for various random things that were going on in his life. I asked a friend to check up on this person and it turns out they had pulled the same scam on other women.

A friend of mine is a police officer and he told me that the scammers typically prey on “older” women in their 40′s and up. The best way to protect yourself is to try to not communicate with people who live beyond “X” miles from the city that you live in. “X” meaning….25 or 50 or whatever you feel comfortable with. Now, not all foreign people are scammers, but to be completely honest…..what are the odds that you will ever meet that multi-million dollar Count from Transylvania who just messaged you on Match.com?

Need to keep an open eye while you are out there. Online Dating is safer that going out to a bar, but just the same you should always think before you act.

:)
