What if I can’t afford eHarmony/Don’t have a credit card

I have had about 10 people in the past week email me with the same question:
“I don’t have a credit card and I can’t afford eHarmony.”
Never fear !! I have a solution with the.
This card will allow you to prepay in advance. There is no credit check, all you need
to do is sign up for the card, add funds and then you can use it as a normal debit
or credit card !!
I also found the link for your free credit report. The U.S.
government passed a law that states that all of the credit
reporting companies MUST give you 1 free copy of
your credit report every year. Freecreditreport.com is
the first place you start:
(but first, a little background information about me…)

I work as an attorney. While my monthly income is 100x what it was when I was a poor, broke law school student, I still live a really frugal lifestyle. Guess what kind of car I drive….nope, not a BMW. Sorry, no Mercedes parked in my parking spot. I drive a 4 year old Honda Accord. ![]()
Why am I telling you this, you ask? Because it is a great intro into what I used to do. When I was in law school, I did not have a job. I could barely afford to put food on my table (mommy and daddy did not give me a free ride). So, I had to use my head in order to survive. I was known as the “freebie princess” back in Law School because I would spend hours on the internet, looking for websites that were giving out free things (free things are good as gold to a law student) as well as hot deals that I could buy for cheap online, then quickly resell on Ebay. (more on that later) Someday when I don’t have any eHarmony promotional codes to post, I will regale you with tales of how I was able to get literally thousands of things online for free or 75% off.

Ok, you have one of two choices here:
1. Assuming you have bad credit, or no credit, you can still get approved for a free checking account from Wamu (aka Washington Mutual). You will then get a debit card that is
attached to the free checking account and can be used like a regular credit card. It is specifically designed for people who are in the process of rebuilding their credit. The qualifications are minimal and I have heard from several people (including one girl who had a 450 FICO score) that they were approved. What seperates this card from the others is that they will “sniff” your credit file (instead of doing a hard pull) so that there is no credit card inquiry listed on your credit report. This is a good thing, because all credit card companies pull your credit file when you apply with them. Again, you are not going to get approved for a $100,000 credit limit….but be happy with what they give you and make timely payments on the credit card and in no time your credit score will begin to rise !
The signup process is very simple:
1. Goto the Wamu signup page
2. Getting Started: select account details
3. Personal Info: enter required fields
4. Summary: review account and personal info
5. Opening Deposit: deposit at least $1 within 30 days to activate the account
And there you have it. You new Wamu debit card (that is attached to your personal checking
account you just signed up for) will be in the mail in a matter of days.

I found this freebie online about 3 weeks ago and have since received my card and there was indeed $10 credited onto the card. Since I am already a member of eHarmony, I used the card to pay for some gasoline to drive to a coffee date I went on last week.

Great find !!
I had some credit “issues” in the past and as a result, I don’t have any credit cards.
Just signed up for this free card and they didn’t ask for any information other than my first and last name. No credit check, no DNA sample required
Cheers !

Nice find !
I have the opposite problem…I have too many credit cards lol.
But, a free debit card with $10 pre-loaded on it will not be turned down by me
I will use this card to pay for a coffee date for the next girl I meet on eHarmony.
thanks !!

This will go great with the 3 month for the price of 1 eharmony promotion code that you listed above.
thanks

Their website says that the free $10 promotion ends on June 30th. After that they are only giving out $5 for every new person that signs up.

Great info. However, I went to check it out and the link didn’t work so i googled WAMU and all this info came up. What’s your thought on this. I guess I can’t open an account now.???
“Washington Mutual Inc. has filed a Chapter 11 reorganization plan, two weeks after resolving a $4 billion dispute with JPMorgan Chase & Co. and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.”

My thoughts are as follows:
Go to http://www.reddit.com. Read the news there. Don’t believe everything that Fox News/CNN/MSNBC and other corporate-owned “news” outlets tell you.
If you are of a liberal political persuasion, then NPR might be right up your alley.
If not, Reddit seems to attract a good amount of intelligent viewers, from all walks of life and all political persuasions.
My only other thought is to give you and everyone who reads this post a little bit of advice:
THINK FOR YOURSELF. DO NOT LET OTHERS THINK FOR YOU.
I could go on….but I’m trying to keep this website about online dating and relationships and out of a political discussion.
Honestly? I think it’s high time that Americans pulled their money out of the banking institutions and put it in a safe in their house. What’s the interest rate nowadays? 1%?
The only people that benefit from these financial institutions in the long run are the bankers and the criminals in charge that pander to them.
Time to teach these morons a lesson. But that will never happen.
Give me a few and I will find a good pre-paid card company that will allow you to deposit a small amount of money onto a pre-paid online credit card (that won’t charge you any fees).
I will edit this post once I find something worthwhile. There used to be a great prepaid card out there, but for some reason they closed their program.
