Date.com has been around since 1997 (on Valentines Day). With over 2 million members and upwards of 250,000 new members signing up on a monthly basis, Date.com is one of the older and more known online dating sites out there. They have been featured on the Wall Street Journal, CNN, Wired and Cosmopolitan to name just a few media reviews.
Simply put, Date.com is your run of the mill dating site that has been around for 10 years and has millions of members. I really didn’t find anything unique that set them apart from the competition, but Date.com does have a few good talking points that I made note of:
Advertising. Date.com recently launched a multi-million dollar advertising campaign (have you seen their newest t.v. commercials?) in well over 50 major U.S. markets. This in and of itself is a great reason to join Date.com. As we all know, advertising works wonders and this is a fresh influx of tens of thousands of new people into Date.com. You won’t see the “same old people” on Date.com like you do on certain other sites. (you know what I mean….the “serial daters”). There are over 50 major US cities listed so now would be a good time to sign up. You know how people are….television tells them to do something (in this case, sign up for Date.com) and they do it !!

Features. Date.Info is their online magazine. Usually when a company puts out an online dating magazine, it is filled with puffery and “fat” to make it seem like a worthwhile publication. Date.Info actually has some good common sense dating advice geared towards anyone (not just paying members). You can sign up for free to be a member of Date.com and then check out their online magazine for free as well.
Features #2. Date Mobile. You can send and receive messages and flirt via your cell phone. If you are like me, nothing brightens your dull and boring day at work more than a text message from that special someone you are talking to. If you can’t get online to Date.com at work (try using a proxy next time) Date Mobile is a great way to flirt and chat while on the go.
Date.com’s interface has all the bells and whistles that one would normally expect from an online dating site. Ability to search for members via whatever preferences you chose, multiple profile features as well as some pretty darn cool picture features. I guess I was expecting a little more here….something that would set Date.com apart from the competition. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Date.com and they are one of the big boys of online dating….it’s just that I was kind of hoping for that one special feature that would raise the bar even higher.
